2015 Cape Girardeau, Missouri Annual Meeting update
Greetings, Joseph Vick Family of America! You will be happy to hear that we are already making plans for the 2015 JVFOA Annual Meeting. Dates are Friday through Sunday, 26-28 June. We will be in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and accommodations are as follows:
Holiday Inn Express and Suites, a Mid-America property, and Auburn Place, also a Mid-America property
Holiday Inn Express and Suites offer suites at $109.00 a night. Auburn Place is a conventional one room arrangement at $90.00 a night. Both properties offer a complimentary breakfast.
Our room block is under "Joseph Vick Family of America", and the toll-free number for reservations is 800.331.0445.
The Holiday Inn has elevators available. The Auburn Place staff will try to make sure our reserved rooms are on the first floor as it has no elevators. (Be sure to request this if it is important to you.)
The two properties are immediately adjacent to one another.
Holiday Inn Express- 573-334-4491
Auburn Place Hotel – 573-651-4486
Our schedule:
Friday, 26 June - Check-in with hotel and JVFOA greeters/registrar anytime after 3:00 p.m.
Call to order, 5:00 p.m. - Welcome from President Gailen Vick, and introduction of Board Members
Dinner that evening, catered in to our meeting room
Speaker on Vick-ology and interesting local history and lore
Saturday, 27 June - Breakfast and business meeting
Board meeting to follow
Lunch catered in to our meeting room
General membership and elections for those offices with expiring committee chairs
Bus tour of notable Vick sites, planned and narrated by Sue Vick LaBruyere
Evening meal in Town Cape Girardeau for local flavor and fun. This also includes our traditional Silent Auction when your Board Members bring items for bidding that are of JVFOA, historical, and/or local interest. Monies realized help offset any unforeseen costs associated with the annual meeting.
We are fortunate to have Local Liaisons Sue Vick LaBruyere, her daughter (and Board Member) Terri LaBruyere Winham, and Terri's husband Bill in, or close to, Cape Girardeau. Bill has kindly offered to give advice on "how to get there" and has even generously proposed airport pick-ups! Their numbers are: Terri 636.236.9885, and Bill 636.236.9101. There will be more in the next newsletter from our Local Liaisons about things to do and see in historic Cape Girardeau. This will be of special interest to those arriving early or staying later in "Cape."
Arrival by air: you may fly into Cape Girardeau, Memphis, or St. Louis. Bill Winham, Local Liaison, prefers the Memphis option because St. Louis to I-55 traffic is quite heavy. More details will be provided in the next edition of this newsletter. The Winhams are quite serious about fielding calls from members, so don't hesitate if you want more travel particulars before our next mailing.
Your Joseph Vick Family of America Board is looking forward to seeing and working with our Cousins, near and far. Be safe until then, and we'll see you in June!
